ONLINE DO SAG ANALYSIS

DESCRIPTION

Online DO sag analysis is an online program to calculate the minimum dissolved oxygen concentration DOmin (mg/L) and its location X (km or mi) along a given stream, in response to an input effluent biochemical oxygen demand De and a ratio of effluent discharge to stream discharge Qe/Qs.

The program produces a double-entry table of DOmin as a function of De (vertical) and Qe/Qs (horizontal).

The program may be used to find:

  • De, given Qe/Qs and DOmin.

  • Qe/Qs, given De and DOmin.

  • DOmin, given De and Qe/Qs.

The program uses the following values of De (mg/L):

10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, and 1000.

The program uses the following values of Qe/Qs:

0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, 0.05, 0.06, 0.07, 0.08, 0.09, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9, and 1.

INPUT

The program will run in default mode without the need to input any data (leave input boxes blank).

The input deoxygenation constant kd (day-1) may be specified. The default value (leave input box blank) is: kd = 0.2 day-1. The allowable range is 0.1-1.0 day-1. [A value of 0 is permitted as default].

The input oxygenation constant ko (day-1) may be specified. The default value (leave input box blank) is: ko = 0.6 day-1. The allowable range is 0.1-1.0 day-1. [A value of 0 is permitted as default].

The input water temperature T (oC or oF) may be specified. The default value (leave input box blank) is: T = 20oC (68oF). The allowable range is 0-40oC (32-104oF). [A value of 0 is permitted as default in U.S. Customary Units].

The input ratio of dissolved oxygen upstream to dissolved oxygen at saturation Os/Ss may be specified. The default value (leave input box blank) is: Os/Ss = 0.9. The allowable range is 0.5-0.99. [A value of 0 is permitted as default].

Os is the actual value of dissolved oxygen concentration (mg/L) in the stream, immediately upstream of the location of effluent discharge.

Ss is the value of dissolved oxygen concentration (mg/L) at saturation for the specified input temperature. This value is set at zero salinity and mean sea level.

The input stream velocity v (m/s or ft/s) may be specified. The default value is: v = 1 m/s (3.28 ft/s). The allowable range is 0.25-4 m/s (0.82-13.12 ft/s). [A value of 0 is permitted as default].
